anniversary of sorts

Heading to the Northern Regional War Practice in Crossville tomorrow. Can't remember what date the event fell on in 2007, but this will mark, more-or-less, my first anniversary as an authorized rapier fighter. Corbin authorized me at last year's event. If I remember correctly, I was the first rapier fighter that he ever authorized. Fitting that, given that he also accepted me as his first student some months later.

I'm alive. Just tired mainly. Survived the sinus infection that transitioned to the flu, now am nearing the end of an ear infection.

It snowed in Knoxville this morning. I <3 snow.

on the plus side ...

I'm at the trailing end of my sinus infection, hopefully --my ears aren't (very) stopped up, there's only minimal pressure inside my skull, and I'm not blowing incredible amounts of Christmas snot every couple of minutes.

Yesterday, I finished my three progress stories that had been due last week, e-mailing them to my boss. I only have one progress assignement left, but it should be a quick write once I get back into the office tomorrow.

I need to fax the humiliation letter to my mortgage company when I get back to Knoxville today. I should have done so weeks ago, but I've been sick for so long, it's been hard to get anything done outside of my regular workday.

Need to start rehearsing my lines for the Black Gryphon play, again. Will try to get together with Tristram on Thursday to do so. Have to get my house cleaned up. Have very little time left to do so.

Am going to try to make a pot of Moroccan harira soup on Friday.

One of my distant relatives by marriage, I think he was married to one of the daughters of one of granddad's brothers, was convinced that I looked like either a doctor, a lawyer or a preacher, dressed up in my suit.

Been pondering what to concentrate my literary studies on for the next while. Perhaps Donne, Marvell and Shelley.

writing

Woke up at 6 a.m. this morning on a flat air mattress. Must have a slow leak. Now bathed, shaved, and coffeed, I'm using the quiet time to write a letter to my mortgage company, begging them to take mercy upon my financially-challenged soul.

Ah, I love the smell of humiliation in the morning. Smells like victory.

The funeral was OK as far as funeral's go. Could have been far worse. Was slightly amused at the preacher. If there was ever a paint-by-numbers sermon, this was it. I kept wondering who the preacher was talking about when he was spouting homilies about my grandfather's religious nature.

But ...

... all this means is I'll sell this house and buy one I can afford. Not giving up. Ever.

Halfway through the ordeal of tax returns today. Still have to go do one for Jax's momma. Hoping to get enough money back to pay my property taxes.

Am going to have to adjust my withholdings, which is going to bite relatively deeply into my net earnings. Hopefully, I'm going to get approved for a rate freeze on my ARM through the govt's "Oh crap, the housing market is melting down" negotiated agreement with the mortgage industry.

It's coming down to the point where the best I can hope for is to get a boarder to share expenses long enough to sell the house. I'll come out with nothing, but I won't be in negative territory.

Grandad's funeral is tomorrow. I need to go to work for a few hours, crank out some progress stories, and then find the time to go charge a suit coat or something.

I'm tired today. And the outlook for not being tired isn't good through mid-week at least.

obit

Did some revising of Granddad's obit today. It'll be published tomorrow and Monday.
